Pre-Dive Exercise May Protect Against Decompression Sickness
A single bout of aerobic exercise 24 h before a dive significantly reduces the formation of circulating bubbles during decompression. A new study investigated the effect of exercise 2 hours before a dive and found that 45 minute of running decreases bubble formation after diving. This suggests a protective effect of exercise against decompression sickness.

Exercise during a decompression stop reduces bubbles in blood
Decompression sickness is initiated by the formation of gas bubbles in tissue and blood if the divers return to surface pressure too fast. A new study finds that a mild underwater swimming during a 3-min decompression period reduces postdive gas bubble formation.

Unregulated aquarium fishing worries divers
Marine biologists and divers are growing worried about the unregulated harvesting of fish and other marine creatures in Hawaii. Robert Wintner is the owner of the dive shop Snorkel Bob's. He says Hawaii's reefs are being strip mined by aquarium collectors.
